The residential area of Sydney’s North Shore spans suburbs from waterfront Kirribilli and McMahon’s Point on Sydney Harbour up to Hornsby and between Middle Harbour and the Lane Cove National Park.
Bordered by two national parks, many of the neighbourhoods have a leafy outlook and nostalgia and elegance that seems worlds away from the bustle of city life. The North Shore is a highly sought-after area for professionals and families who love being within easy reach of business hubs, the Northern Beaches and some of Sydney’s top-rated schools.
Novari Interior Design has undertaken interior design projects on a range of homes in the area from a large double-fronted family home in Cremorne, to an older-style terrace in Mosman and an apartment in Greenwich.
After moving to a new house, the owner of this character-filled terrace in the lower north shore suburb of Mosman called in the team at Novari Interior Design to help her furnish and style her new home.
While she had kept some treasured pieces and art from her previous home, she was keen for her new place to have a fresh look and feel with the addition of key furniture and styling items.
Choosing furniture to fit the space, especially the combined living and dining room was also a key consideration.
Working with the client’s existing sofa, we completed the lounge space by adding some feature armchairs with a dark timber arm and rattan detail, along with the coffee table, rug, new scatter cushions and accessories.
The existing timber dining table was kept but the old fashioned upholstered dining chairs were upgraded with a timeless black Bentwood chair. Given the table is very solid and a little rustic, the slimline chairs helped to keep the space feeling less cluttered and more contemporary. A sheer white curtain helps soften the space.
The client was over the moon and shared this lovely review of our work.
“The decoration of my new home is complete,” said Ms Ellicott. “It is a delight to live in thanks largely to the help and expert eye of Luisa Volpato and her team at Novari Interior Design.
“They successfully incorporated my existing artworks and furnishings with exciting new pieces including occasional chairs, soft furnishings, rugs, light fittings and outdoor furniture.
“I appreciated the way they so professionally presented an array of options and kept in mind my budget. I have no hesitation in recommending Novari Interior Design if you are looking to create an inviting and stylish home,” said Ms Ellicott.

The brief for this project for a large family home in Cremorne was modern contemporary with the materials palette including walnut and black timber, marble and metallics.
Custom upholstery includes occasional chairs and scatter cushions in a range of complementary fabrics and patterns while neutral colours were chosen for large items such as the sofa and rug.
The sleek black oak furniture continued in the study while the powder room was given a complete overhaul with the addition of wallpaper and new black accessories including mirror, tapware and lighting.
